Siberian Husky Rescue
Due in part to their beauty,
Siberian Huskies are often selected as pets without consideration to
their inherent traits. For some people, there are several basic Siberian
Husky traits that can turn them into unsuitable pets. Please contact us
if you have found a Siberian Husky, want to contribute to their welfare,
or want to adopt a deserving dog.
The Puget Sound Siberian
Husky Club does its rescue work in conjunction with Seattle Purebred Dog
Rescue. Foster homes are always needed!
If you are interested in adopting a rescued Siberian, read:
Siberian
Husky Rescue Site
After you've done that,
and if you still want to adopt a rescued Siberian, fill out an adoption
application found at Seattle
Purebred Dog Rescue or search for adoptable Siberians at: Petfinder.com
If you made a mistake and bought a
Siberian Husky puppy that you no longer want, do the following:
- Call
the breeder, asking to return it to them. Reputable breeders take
responsibility for the animals they produce.
- Take a deep breath.
Siberians Huskies are nightmare teenagers until they turn 2 years old.
At that point, they become young adults, and will mellow a bit more when
they turn 4 years old.
- Find an obedience or agility class. Siberian
Huskies were bred to be working dogs. Like other working dogs of all
breeds, they are happier if they have something to do.
- Take your dog
for a run. Siberian Huskies were bred to pull sleds over long distances
for dozens of miles a day. Their instinct to run is strong. If you take
your dog for two or three 3-5 mile runs in the winter and a walk once in
a while in the summer, it will be easier to live with.
- If you would
like to list your dog with Seattle Purebred Dog Rescue, you must fill
out and send in a listing agreement that can be found at http://www.spdrdogs.org.
Be aware that this is a referral service and that dogs remain with their
owner until placed.
